UK healthcare jobs: check your registration route before applying

How to organise the right questions about registration, language evidence and your individual application route.

Start with your profession

Registration is a separate question from receiving a job offer. For doctors, begin with the GMC’s registration guidance. Nurses should use the NMC’s internationally trained applicant guidance. Dentists should check the GDC; physiotherapists and radiographers should check the HCPC. Do not assume a route followed by a colleague in another profession applies to you.

Build an accurate professional outline

Write down where you qualified, your qualification title, relevant experience and any registration you already hold. The GMC describes different routes according to qualification and experience. Use its application guidance to identify questions for your own situation rather than assuming every doctor must take the same examination. Keep your professional outline separate from a prediction about whether a regulator will approve it.

Check evidence before booking anything

The NMC provides a personalised pre-application checklist and guidance on its application process, language requirements and Test of Competence. Use the current official pages to understand what you need to investigate. Before paying for a test or a document service, confirm that it fits the route you are pursuing. Record the source and date so your recruiter can help review changes.

Keep your tracker honest

Use labels such as document available, requirement being checked, submitted and verified. Having a degree certificate does not mean a regulator has accepted it. Having a language result does not automatically prove it meets every current condition. Keep unfinished milestones visible; an accurate tracker is more helpful than a high score based on assumptions.

Make the recruitment conversation practical

Bring a concise CV, your preferred role and a list of unresolved registration questions. Ask about the employer’s expectations, interview process, proposed start window and any support offered. Licensing, employment and immigration decisions are distinct. Midora can help organise the journey, but the relevant authorities and employer make their own decisions. Explore the UK checklist and published roles before applying.
